Dr VK Sharma is a senior dermatologist of 40 years experience in Dermatology at one of the largest and famous hospitals namely All India Institute of Medical Sciences New Delhi and Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh.
He is renowned consultant dermatologist with profound international and national standing and has served as national President of Indian Association of Dermatologists and Venereologists, and on the Board of Directors of American Academy of Dermatology and International Society of Dermatology.
He is well travelled and has been visiting professor to universities of USA and UK to deliver talks and conduct grand rounds including University of Michigan, USA , Southwest University at Dallas, Northwest University at Chicago, Sanfrancisco , UC Davis, California, USA as well as Cardiff and Bangor Universities , UK.
He is well known for treating chronic diseases of skin and STIs. He expert in the acne, melasma, pigmentation, dermatitis or eczema, alopecia, psoriasis, vitiligo, contact dermatitis, drug reactions, STIs and leprosy. He is also expert in PDL, Nd YAG, Resurfacing Lasers and microneedling. He is well known for procedural dermatology for treatment of pigmentation, acne scars, keloids, wrinkles, warts and moles, and antiaging treatments.

- MBBS with gold medal from Dayanand Medical College and Hospital, Ludhiana under Punjab University.
- MD Dermatology and Venereology from All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi in 1982.

- Senior resident and faculty at Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh 1982-1998.
- Professor Dermatology at AIIMS, New Delhi in 1998 and served as Chairman of Dermatology department at AIIMS, New Delhi for nearly twenty years.
- Dean Academic Affairs and Professor and Head, Dermatology at ShardaMedical College and hospital, Greater Noida UP for more than two years.

- One year Fellowship in Leprosy Research at National Institute for Leprosy Research, Tokyo and Juntendo University , Tokyo, Japan, 1992-93 and became expert in Asian skin diseases.

- Recipient of Prof. KC Kandhari Foundation award, highest and lifetime award by IADVL 2017
